DERT’s social mission is to ensure that all children identify as readers by having access to books and being read to on a regular basis. This DERT book was designed by Elias Paulson, a communication design student from Las Vegas, Nevada. Elias designed and illustrated the story using pictorial illustrations with no words allowing the reader to understand and create the story using their own words. The full text of the story is featured on the last page of the story.
This 44-page paperback is part of a social venture project to spread literacy to families in underserved communities. DERT works with emerging designers to create unique, customized books. Each DERT book features the design and conceptual artwork created by graphic design students. With each purchase, proceeds from the sale are donated to help support the cause of early childhood literacy.
