Walden delineates the two years, two months, and two days of simple living in an isolated, natural environment of the transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau. In order to immerse himself in nature away from society, Thoreau builds a cabin in woodland near Walden Pond, in Concord, Massachusetts.
Walden is essentially an introspective social experiment and voyage of personal discovery, whereby Thoreau hoped to gain a more objective perspective on society. Thoreau explores themes of self-sufficiency and environmentalism.
